People who are bringing change – Mrs. Asha Bairagi

Meet Mrs. Asha Bairagi, a spirited rural woman from Lakhakhedi village in Agar-Malwa district, Madhya Pradesh. Not long ago, Asha was an ordinary name in her community. Today, she stands out as a source of transformation—thanks to her extraordinary commitment to improving health and nutrition in rural areas.

Asha's journey began when she joined the Good Farming–Good Food programme as a Nutri Sakhi—a Nutrition Friend. With determination in her heart and a mission to serve, she set out to bring about change, starting with four villages in her region.

Every day, Asha met with potential beneficiaries, reaching out to different segments of the community—women, adolescent girls, school children, SHG members, Mid-Day Meal (MDM) cooks, and even public representatives. Her sessions focused on the importance of good nutrition, local food diversity, and the benefits of soy-based diets. Her message was simple but powerful: "Good health begins at home—with the food we eat."

In just two months, Asha conducted numerous household visits, spreading awareness like wildfire. Her grassroots engagement caught the attention of local leadership. Inspired by Asha’s initiative, Mrs. Sita Bai Sisodiya, the Sarpanch of Lakhakhedi, took a significant step—she donated 5 kilograms of soybeans to the village’s MDM cook. This gesture made soy an integral part of the school meals, ensuring students received an additional source of protein and better nutrition.

Asha’s story is not just about one woman—it’s about the power of community-driven change. Through compassion, knowledge, and persistence, Mrs. Asha Bairagi is not only changing lives but shaping a healthier future for generations to come.
